The story behind Bassfeed.comHey there! I'm Sarah Kjorlien, the creator and editor of Bassfeed. I currently teach middle school band and choir at the American School of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (that's my school on the right). I started attending the American Band College because I wanted to get better at teaching band, and it has greatly helped me improve my skills.
This project was inspired by something tuba player Pat Sheridan said in one of his clinics at ABC. He was talking about how tuba players are typically very helpful people, and how "the success of the melody depends on the bass." He encouraged all of us in the audience to give our bass players specific help to get better at supporting the melody and improving dexterity and tone. That is what we strive to do at Bassfeed- bring you the best resources and tips available for your instrument, to help you get better. This project is also part of a requirement for my Masters degree. |
Teachers want to get better, too!The American Band College is an amazing Masters program for band teachers that focuses on building practical knowledge and skills. It was founded in 1989 by Max McKee and is currently accredited through Sam Houston State University. Attending ABC, I have built amazing friendships and had unbelievable musical experiences while becoming a better conductor and educator.
